Question:
Our Rights and Obligations as Muslim Women?
2008-02-22 09:07:41 UTC
I know I have asked this like 5 times already, but i have to write an essay on this topic for Sunday School, so does anybody have any idea on how to introduce this topic in my essay?

Thanks

P.S : I want to try to tie in the MYTH that Islam oppresses women.. but how?

My previous para :

God created both men and women equally, I said calmly.” “Oh yeah? Then why do women get beaten, why are they victims of honor killings, and why are they forced to cover every inch of their body, or face death? If Islam doesn’t oppress women, then why are women treated so badly Islamic Countries?”

I can't use this paragraph, because i just made it all up, and if i sumbit it, then there going to ask my all these questions, i.e if it really happened..

So, i need ANOTHER way to introduce this paragraph.

My Dear Sara,

I have been replying to your similar questions for quite a good time now :) but never mind,,, u are always welcome with your sweet quries. I'm posting the link where I have replied to your question about Obligations for a Woman in Islam.

I will reply to the Para.

We cannot blend Islam with the Culture. Or Islam with the illiteracy of one person. We cannot judge Islam through the people, through human being where they can err in today's world.

The condition of women in the world before Islam was very bad. Women were treated like slaves or property, their personal consent concerning anything related to their well being was considered unimportant.Women were used for one purpose, and then discarded. They had no independence, could own no property and were not allowed to inherit. Simply put, their condition was unspeakable. Islam gave the right for women and made them equal to men.Islam considers a woman to be equal to a man as a human being and as his partner in this life, and raised her condition very much.

Allah says in the Quran: "O You who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will, and you should not treat them with harshness, that you may take away part of the Mahr (bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at time of marriage) you have given them, unless they commit open illegal sexual intercourse. And live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allah brings through it a great deal of good." (An-Nisa 4:19)

The most basic right of a woman in Islam is the knowledge and recognition. She never has to ask or demand or fight for her rights which are guaranteed to her by Allah (SWT) Himself. In reality, and in Islam, the rights and responsibilities of a woman are equal to those of a man, but they are not necessarily identical to them.

Islam Has given women many rights, inheritance rights, marital rights, Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) asks us to get educated. And Above All, Heaven lies under the feet of mother,,,mother a Woman. More else do you expect.

If in Surah Nisa, we get the verse where men are been asked to beat their wives it doesn't mean they start raising their hands on them. Rather they give them a little tap to make them understand because few women are really disobedient to their husbands. So just to make them understand, Allah has given husbands that right at the last limit. Just like the way we sometimes beat children slightly to make them understand and learn. In order to safe marriage, in order to get the relationship go on, one can be little strict. but do not be harsh to their wives.

Rest Allah knows the best~!

Well, the Muslim women I have spoken to here in the US don't feel that way at all. They are very pro-Islam and really don't have anything bad to say about it. I'm beginning to think that it's just the violent goof-balls over there and not the whole society. This is likely why you are not getting a response... because there isn't any.

Start your essay with "Muslimah in Islamic countries nowaday is been abused with physical criminal such......." continues your explaination with a lot of fact and evidence. Give some suggestion of solution to protect Muslimah in the future beyond. I hope this will help.

Bismillāhir-Raúmānir-Raúeem = "In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate".

1-ISLAM gives women the respect no other religion can even imagine ISLAM says "heaven is in the feet’s of a mother" this is the zenith of respect. (MEANS U CAN GET PLACE IN HEAVEN IF U RESPECT UR MOTHER)

A man once consulted the Prophet Muhammad about taking part in a military campaign. The Prophet asked the man if his mother was still living. When told that she was alive, the Prophet said: "(Then) stay with her, for Paradise is at her feet." (Al-Tirmidhi)

2- Women has the right in legacy in Islam no religion gives that right to women now modern world copying it { Fact File }. Women have less part in legacy since she not has the liability of her own family’s financial problems.

3-Women have the right of divorce gives by ISLAM & copied by other religions. { Fact File }

4-First person who convert to Islam was a “WOMAN” & she is UMMUL MOMINEEN HAZRAT KHADIJA (radi Allahu 'anha).

5- The women will get in HEAVEN that which the heart has not desired for, the ear hasn’t heard off and the eye hasn’t seen, indicating that even the women will get something exceptional in Paradise.

6-Tell me who will get molest form two twins by hooligans, a twin Muslim girl in BURQA (Veil) or a twin in mini skirt?

If Muslims obey the ISLAMIC LAWS then compare and contrast between Muslim and non-Muslim women.

( WOMEN OF FAITH )

Consider a woman of faith coming to me, the prophet. She pledges herself to serve no other god but God; she promises not to commit theft, adultery or murder; she undertakes not to tell monstrous lies of her own invention; she says that she will obey me when my commands are just and reasonable. I shall accept her, and beg God to forgive her. God is forgiving and merciful.

-Qur'an, Al-Mumtahinah, Surah 60:12

(GOD HEARS THE WORDS OF THE WOMAN)

God hears the words of the woman who complains to Muhammad about the cruelty of her husband; God hears her words when she complains directly to him. God listens to everything that is said; he hears all and observes all.

-Qur'an, Al-Mujadilah, Surah 58:1

JUDGE “ ISLAM “ BY ITSELF (QURAN,SUNNAH SAHEE HADITH) AND NOT BY ITS FOLLOWERS.

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE PPL DO WHAT DOES MATTER IS THAT WHAT ISLAM SAYS, SIMPLE IS THAT.

***If men do crimes against women then they will be punished for their bad deeds.***

Kudos to sister Maria.

Two things that come immediately to mind are"What is the meaning of qawwamuna as used in Surat al-Nisa', verse 34?" by Shaykh Nu Ha Mim Keller at http://www.masud.co.uk/ISLAM/nuh/qawamuna.htm and the Ahlu Bayt Digital Library Project's section on women at http://al-islam.org/alpha.php?link_locale_c=1&session=0&attach=&having=&t=alpha&cat=203&link_type_id=&alpha_id=136 . One link that is not listed in that section is the Islamic Family Structure at ( http://www.rafed.net/english/books/family/family ). It is listed in another section, but that link is broken. I Google it every time I want it.

I googled Sunnipath and also got the following:

Don't worry about using both Shia and Sunni Islamic resources. So many of the Qur'anic interpretations and narrations are similar or mutually acceptable bewteen the two sects. If you want, you can distinguish them by briefly labelling them as "Shia Islamic explanation/narration" and "Sunni Islamic explanation/narrative," but if it makes your essay too long, don't worry about it. We have plenty of time to argue over other things, so there hsould be no problem coming together long enough to present Islam to non-Muslims.

Good luck.
