Brothers and sisters, asalamu alaykum :-)
I'm doing a survey on music, which we all know is a very controversial and debatable issue. Which of these 3 choices best reflects your opinion?

A) I think music is haram
B) I don't think music is haram
C) I'm not sure/don't know

Please choose either A, B or C. In about a week or two's time i will post another question in which i will share the results of my survey, and ask for your opinions. I would greatly appreciate it if as many people participated as possible.
Jazakum Allahu Khayran :-)

Haram!

"And of mankind is he who purchases idle talk (Lahwul-Hadeeth) to mislead men from the path of Allaah without knowledge, and takes it by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment." [Luqman 31:6]

Narrated Aisha:

That once Abu Bakr came to her on the day of 'Id-ul-Fitr or 'Id ul Adha while the Prophet was with her and there were two girl singers with her, singing songs of the Ansar about the day of Buath. Abu Bakr said twice. "Musical instrument of Satan!" But the Prophet said, "Leave them Abu Bakr, for every nation has an 'Id (i.e. festival) and this day is our 'Id."

A)

i dont understand you muslims. a woman showing her elbows is a sin, but listening to music is not? music sounds more sinful than elbows! most things any non-muslim would consider halal is haram, so dont make music the acception just because you like it and dont want that right to be banned, too!

B) depends on the content, i listen to rap , but not Gangster rap, i tend to listen to underground rap and east coast because they give a story, and most of the time they dont talk about sex or the girl with the big butt

sweepy its not why i or u think

its what our Qur'an and Ahadeeth say.

The Noble Qur'an - Luqman 31:6

And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Qur'an) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-Fire).

Ibn Masood (ra) said about this verse "I swear by the One other than Whom there is no God that it refers to singing [ghinaa].", and he repeated this three times. Ibn Abbaas (ra) said it refered to 'singing and the like' while Jaabir (ra) is reported to view its meaning to signify singing and listening to songs. Many taabi'oon such as Mujaahid, Ikrimah, Mak-hool and Umar ibn Shu'ayb viewed it as a censure of music and song.

It's not as simple as A, B OR C. Haram music is haram. Music about sex, violence, drugs, materialism etc is all haram. Anti war songs for example, are not haram.

It is haraam.

Ibn Mas'ood(RA) used to swear by Allah(SWT) that the ayah:

{And of mankind is he who purchaes idle talk [i.e. music, singing, etc.] to mislead [men] from the Path of Allah.}(Qur'an 31:6) referred to singing [Tafseer ibn Katheer, 6/333]

Abu Amir and Abu Malik al-Ash'ari(RA) reported that the Prophet(SAW) said: "Among my ummah will be people who will make permissbale al-herra, al-hareer, al-khamr and al-ma'azif-liberalism, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments" [Bukhari, see Fath al-bari, 10/51]

Anas(RA) reported that the Prophet(SAW) said: "In this ummah, there will be punishments of earthquakes, showers of stones and deformity(transformation into animals); when the people will be involved in drinking khamr (intoxicants), listen to female singers and play musical instruments."[Silsilat al-ahadeeth as-Saheehah, hadith no. 2203, attributed to Ibn Abi Dunya, concerning Dhammm al-Malahi (condemnation of musical instruments); the hadith is narrated by At-Tirmidhi, hadith no. 2212]

I have to agree with The Hammer.

Music is good. It has even been proved that children who learn a musical instrument score better in classes such as math and science.

God liked when David played the harp for Him.

“Yes we know!” They spoke in sync.

“It’s nothing new! It’s just a waste of time! We have no need for ancient ways! it’s just another toy that helped destroy the Elder Tribes of man! Forget about about your silly whim, it doesn’t fit the plan!”

This is why I, and many, greet Islam with suspicion and hostility.

What kind of misanthropic, life-denying, joy-hating, freedom-destroying your religion is?

What kind of evil man was your so-called "prophet" Muhammad was?

What kind of mindless robots follow him?

"As the Priests arrived however, they were displeased.

“I know it’s most unusual,” Tybalt said playing. “To come before you so, but I found an ancient miracle, I thought that you should know. Listen to my music:” he strummed a chord “and see what it can do. There’s something here as strong as life, I know it’ll reach you.”

“Yes we know!” They spoke in sync. “It’s nothing new! It’s just a waste of time! We have no need for ancient ways! it’s just another toy that helped destroy the Elder Tribes of man! Forget about about your silly whim, it doesn’t fit the plan!”

“I can’t believe you’re saying,” He said, still playing. “These things cannot be true, my world could use this beauty, just think what we might do? Listen to my music” he strummed another chord ” and hear what it can do, there’s something here as strond as life, I know that it will reach you!”

“Don’t annoy us further! We have our work to do! Just think about the average, what use have they for you!? It’s just another toy that helped destroy the Elder Tribes of man! Forget about you silly whim, it doesn’t fit the plan!”

At that moment, the Priests seized the guitar from Tybalt and smashed it on the ground, then the same troupe of guards that let him in took him out. He wondered home to find it had been burned down and all his property destroyed."
