My parents said watching any kind of tv breaks your fast. Allah swt doesnt want you watching tv or listening to music. It is a BIG sin. MashAllah, i dont watch tv or listen to music when i am fasting. but playing video games is fine, just turn the volume on mute. bc you are playing a game, not really watching tv, same on the computer as you play games. I dont know why some people watch tv while fasting, they shouldnt, it's a sin and not good.

Just as Amal said, it doesn't actually break your fast, but its a way to decrease your hassanat. But of course dragonball isn't a ''bad'' show like some of the other shows that are on lately. During your fasting hours, you should increase the prayers and salawat, instead of wasting the time with T.V

But i think Amal's answer sums it up ;)

Happy Ramadan!!

No it does not break your fast. It is not good if it is diverting you from your prayers and from reading Quran and other forms of Ibadaath. Im a senior in high school and im addicted to xbox live. but religion, is priority. and watching TV doesnt break your fast, but do not watch anything graphic or innappropriate. like my family watches pakistani channels where the Adn comes on at appropriate times... and naats and Duaa's also come one.

Its about how you feel toward God. He knows your thoughts and the reasons why you are fasting. In your own mind do you think that God is pleased with your actions. Do you feel like you are honoring God when you play video games and watch T.V.? What God cares about more than fasting is your attention, your time, your life.

There are numerous spiritual benefits of fasting. Fasting is extremely efficient for the acquisition of taqwaa (piety), without which a Muslim cannot gain closeness to Allah. The prime benefit in the pursuit of taqwaa is the suppression of the erratic desires and demands of nafs (based carnal desire), which is always working in collusion with Shaytaan, to spiritually and morally ruin the believer. If the nafs is allowed freedom, then it will succeed in making man a slave of lust, passion and base emotions, due to which his Imaan will suffer. Therefore, it is essential that the nafs be restrained. Fasting greatly aids towards pursuing this objective. By fasting, a Muslim learns to suppress his lowly desires. Thus the ability of inculcating taqwaa is created. Further, fasting purifies the soul, and creates gratification in worship, making the heart conducive for worship. The bond with Allah is also strengthened. Once our beloved Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam supplicated, "O Lord of the universe! When does the servant become closest to you?" The Divine Reply came, "When the servant is hungry and when he is in sajdah (prostration)."

Another outstanding feature of fasting is that it lifts man above the level of beasts and animals - who eat, drink and copulate at will, whenever the urge comes - and takes him to the parallel of the angels. Since the latter do not eat or drink, they are devoid and free of evil inclinations and all things base. Man, by reducing his worldly relations and emotional desires, moves himself to the realms of the angels.

As well as the many spiritual benefits of fasting, there are physical

Among the things that can destroy one’s hasanaat (good deeds) and bring sayi’aat (bad deeds) is allowing oneself to be distracted by quiz-shows, soap operas, movies and sports matches, idle gatherings, hanging about in the streets with evil people and time-wasters, driving around for no purpose, and crowding the streets and sidewalks, so that the months of tahajjud, dhikr and worship, for many people, becomes the month of sleeping in the day so as to avoid feeling hungry, thus missing their prayers and the opportunity to pray them in congregation, then spending their nights in entertainment and indulging their desires.
