This "logic" collapses upon examination. First of all, the Hadith are far more voluminous than the quran, if you count Tabari, Ibm Ishaq, Muslim, etc.
Second, there is much in the quran that simply has no explanation except in the Hadith. The Quran says to observe ramadan. Nothing about how. The Quran says to follow Muhammad's example, but then doesn't tell much about the example Muhammad sets. The Quran speaks of ablutions, but doesn't say how they are done. These and many other things are taken for granted by the Quran, because they were within the frame of reference to those that Muhammad was dictating to, and he felt there was no need to tell them how to do things they had been doing long before he came along. Since 99.9% of the rest of the world are not 7th century polytheistic Arabs, that leave the rest of us guessing.
Since there is not logical order tot he Quran or a narrative thread, there is no way of relating the surah to events in Muhammad's life without the Tabari and Ibn Ishaq Hadith.
Unfortunately, when you add those, and read the Quran in context, it comes across as rather petty and ppedantic with situational scripture being "revealed" whenever Muhammad finds himself in a jam, and needs Allah to bail him out. Has anyone noticed that Allah never once said "No" to muhammad? Gee why do you think that is?
The Hadith explain the quran. The quran cannot stand on it's own, and barely stands ont he strength of the hadith.
