When someone says assalamalaikum and the other person replies with assalamalikum also, is this ok. Or is it a must to reply with walaikum assaalam?
Sometimes people do that and I've done it in the past so I just wanted to find out if it was ok or not.

Assalamalykum warah-matulahi wa-barakah-tu.

In the name of Allah, Most Mercifull and Most Beneficial.

Person One: May peace be with you

Person two: May peace be with you.

Or do you prefer...

Person one: May peace be with you.

Person Two; May peace be with you also.

I prefer the second, And i was raised with that so it would make sence to use it and apply it to everyday life. You can reply in the way that you want, its not that important. But many great figures have used the second in the past.

A person will greet you with Assalam-o-Alaikum and you should reply with Walaikum-o-Assalam. It doesn't matter that you aren't Muslim at all, you are just wishing the person peace in return. But it needs to be said that way around. They are always happy to hear a westerner speaking the language.

as salaamoalykum.

yes we have to reply walaikum as salaam when one greets us or vise versa. because it is fardh(mandatory) to reply when someone greets you by as salaamoalaikum.

and if you didn't had the knowledge about this matter that is it necessary to reply walikum as salaam ALLAH is the forgiving. but now you know the correct way to reply to a salaam you shud do it in the correct way.and you know when someone greets with as salaamoalaikum he gets 90 good deeds and the one who replies he gets 10 good deeds.its in hadith.

isn't it amazing that ALLAH SUBAHANA WA TA'ALA has given us so much bonus in such little things also so that it becomes so much easy to earn good deeds.

subhan allah

MAY ALLAH SUBHANA WA TA'ALA guide us the true path.

jazak allah khair

It's not just okay, it's really so nice of you to do so. Muslims usually believe it's so considerable of someone who happens to be non-Muslim to greet them this way. There are a good number of Christians and non Muslims in the Arab/Muslim world and most of them do greet Muslims by "Assalamo alaikum". Hope this helps. ~Peace~

it's the same thing...

Salam o Alaykum is - peace be unto you

wa laykum as salam - and peace be unto you.

you can say Salam o Alaykum, it does not matter.

But more gramatically correct to use Wa--

:-)

aslamo alikom. it is ok but the better is saying walikom alslam wa rahmato ALLAH WA BARAKATO ,they do that as they may thought when they say that first they will take much HASSNAT but when you complete the greeting to the end you talk more HASSNAT

As salaamu 'alaikym warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, sister.

Insha'Allah, we have been told by the Prophet Muhammad, salaahu 'alaihi wasalaam, to greet all with "peace" or "salaam" however, when we see a Muslim brother or sister, it is customary to greet them with "As salaamu 'alaikym" meaning, "peace be with you". the customary reply is "Wa'alaikym salaam" meaning, "and peace be with you" so as to return the same.

Insha'Allah, one might also choose to greet one's brother or sister in Islam with "As salaamu 'alaikym warahmatullahi wabaraktuh", meaning "The peace and blessing of Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, be uopn you". The customary reply would then be, "Wa'alaikym salaamu warahmatullahi wabaraktuh", meaning "and the peace and blessing of Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, be uopn you."

"Wa" may be translated as "and", "too" or also" depending upon the usage.

ma'a salaam

I dont think it matters. All it is is that its not the right grammar. In the end its the same meaning.
