Question:
Why do some non-Muslims observe the Ramadan fast?

I am a non-Muslim. This will be my second day of fasting. I am also reading a section of the Quran each day. My best friend is Muslim and I am doing this to show my support, respect and love for him. I also believe that I will benefit on a personal level as well. I feel good when I read the Quran after a day of abstinence. It gives me a sense of peace. The fasting observance is a little different for women. You cannot fast during your time of the month. And, you must make up the days missed at the end of Ramadan.

If it makes you happy then do it. I do not observe fasting as I am a Christian woman.

There is nothing wrong with a non-muslim observing Ramadan. Some muslims will say you don't get the rewards, but I disagree with that. Some Christians also observe Ramadan out of solidarity to our muslim brothers and sisters. I believe they also receive the rewards because as Christians there are many times we fast for one day, 2 days or however many days we have told God we will fast. This is done in obedience to God. I do believe that if a Christian fasts during Ramadan they should do so with the knowledge that God does not require it and the understanding that we are not accepting Islam as a religion of God when we do so.

I think that theres some issues on both sides. 1) if you think that this is a horrible thing that is too demanding, I take it that means you are against blue laws right? (laws that disallow the sale of alcohol on sundays, sunday morning, ect, the details vary) 2) I think that the issue is one that moderation is crucial in. at least the impression I get from that is that they are NOT wanting to force non-muslims to observe it in their own home. only in public. 3) restaurants. I think it is entirely unreasonable to expect restaurants run by non-muslims to close during the day. its entirely reasonable for muslim business owners to close during that time though. I think its not unreasonable to ask that non-muslim restaurants only have indoor eating, or perhaps even have shades drawn as to not flaunt that they are eating. but I do not think it should be an actual law either. I think that reasonable people would be more willing to go along with it if it was just a nice request of mutual respect, instead of a NO YOU CANNOT EAT IN PUBLIC! ultimatum. and also, theres a big difference between a country having a large population of a certain religion, and being a country run by that religion.

In Muslim majority countries most non-muslims would observe the same abstinence as respect for our beliefs and as a sign of their solidarity with their fellow country-men. Although they are only expected not to eat in public, if they do observe fasts it is highly appreciative. May Allah guide you to the right path and shower His blessings upon you. Ameen!

Jehovah (God) and allah are not the same god. If they were there would be no need for two books that say completely different things.

The Bible is God breathed and without contradiction, it says that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. In the Qur'an, allah is always changing. In the Bible we are told to love all including our enemies. In the Qur'an, The infidel is to be killed.

Regarding fasting. as was said earlier, a Christian is to fast in secret for if he does it in public he has his reward. There is a big difference between Cristianity and Islam. The Bible says in accepting Jesus Christ you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.

I am a Christian who strives to love all including those who follow Islam

You're asking a question you already have answered. You're the non muslim observing the fast you should know. But Mashallah anyway.

For those who think Allah and God is different , its not , its just the language barrier. Allah is my god , Allah is the Christians god , Allah is the Jews god , Allah is the Atheists god. Allah is just the god.

If you are Christian you should not tell anyone you are fasting. God calls those people hypocrites because you are doing it for the glory not for God. I do not fast during ramadan because I do not worship Allah I worship God.
